3 Best Reasons To Create A Brand
What is a brand?
Everyone should create a brand. In many ways, we have. It doesn’t take much, add your own personality, pick some colors and add a logo, and you create a brand. Building it into something big is something different all together!
Brand has taken on a few meanings through history, and one of the most popular meanings is “an identifying mark” and this is the one we will focus on.
What is so important about this identifying mark anyway? Many things actually! Whether you realize it or not, you are your own walking talking brand of yourself! You are creating a “mark” of who you are on the people we interact with.
It is what people see, such as the colors we normally wear, if there is a particular hat or hairstyle we have and so on. This is our own personal brand that we have created whether we realize it or not.
How we manage this brand we have created can be either good or bad. It can bring more people and opportunity to us, or it can drive people away or to oppose us. We always need to have a clear idea of what our brand is and what it says.
Top 3 Reasons To Create A Brand
If you want the TLDR, here it is:
- We’re always creating a personal brand, we should use it to help us
- A brand can invoke trust, and confidence
- A brand is quick to associate with a person or company
Think about your favorite shoe, your favorite sports team, or favorite anything. Generally there is a brand that you think of when you do. Sometimes brands become what we call generic things
Think about how we use Kleenex and tissue interchangeably.
This is the power of a brand. This is what brands can do for us as people on both sides. Brands give us something to identify with.
When you harness the power of a brand, and make it the power of your brand, you are able to reach the world. When you create a brand, you create something special.
How are we always creating a personal brand?
When you are able to go out and spend time with your friends, do you always wear jeans, a skirt, sunglasses, or flip-flops? Do you often wear your favorite color? Do you wear a hat? Maybe even a specific hat? Do you dress up in a suit and tie every day?
These are all things that are part of your brand. Color, look, feel, mood, attitude… think about companies like Google, or Walmart, Facebook, they have a brand that we can identify, and I dentify with.
Companies are leveraging this all the time because they know that we are always branding. We are always doing something to positively effect the image or feeling that someone has when they think of us, or our company.
Now we should focus on realling making a connection with our brand.
We are not going to specifically dive into the steps to create a brand in this article. That is covered in a different article. The focus here is to look at why it is important. This is about emphasizing how important it is to create your mark. This is about what your brand can do for you.
A Brand Can Invoke Trust and Confidence
When we think of certain images we think of certain things, brands too. Take a moment and think of the following brands:
Now ask yourself a few questions:
- What does it make me feel when I hear these names?
- What do I think of when I hear these names?
- What do I assume to be true when I hear these names?
These are brands, and more specifically brand names. They while they are companies, they are also that company’s mark.
How often do we look up information that we don’t know? Where do we go to look up that information? We usually use Google. It is the number one search engine in the world.
By providing generally reliable search results, it has a “trusted” brand.
Think about companies you have done business with that have left a sour taste in your mouth. Maybe it was their customer policy, or a change in their pricing structure. These companies have started to break that trust.
Brands Create Quick Association
The wonderful thing about creating a unique mark, it makes it a lot easier to associate with you or your business.
Take for example these fries… I don’t have to tell anyone where the fries came from because of the brand that is around the fries. Even the fries are part of the brand, they are trademarked. This is all part of the experience.
The colors, the smell, the imagery, it all comes together in a greater picture. This is what your brand should to. Create an immediate experience as soon as someone hears your name or sees your logo.
Honesty, integrity, joyful, and more…
These are the things that we want to associate with our mark, with our vision, with our brand.
Your name, your company, your brand… they should all invoke the same positive image. They should be associated with excellence. This should also be an immedite reaction. Just like when you think of Amazon and think about two day shipping with Prime membership. You should be known for something.
Summary
Whether we are just going through our day to day life, in charge of marketing, or building a business, we all have a brand. You don’t have to be a company to have a brand. It is our responsibility to decide if we want to make our brand stand out and do great things! Create our positive mark!
While we will spend time on logos and colors, which have an impact, we should also remember our vision.
We should make sure that we have built integrity into what we do, and therefore confidence.
By under promising it is much easier to over deliver and it builds a quick association for an outstanding brand especially when taking care of your community.
While we do have customers as a business, let us remember that they are part of our community and are on our side.
Building a strong brand is about working together.
